A Wedding Rooted in Love, Culture, and Candlelight: Zori & Pemisin
Zori and Pemisin’s love story started at the University of Florida. Years later, when it came time to celebrate their forever, they returned to the spirit of that beginning and built a wedding that felt like an honest reflection of who they are together.
With Pemisin’s Nigerian heritage and Zori’s Jamaican roots, color and energy were never just aesthetic choices. They were a love language. One of the most stunning expressions of that came through the Nigerian tradition of guests coordinating their attire with the wedding’s color palette. The result was a room full of people who looked like a living, breathing celebration, and the effect was nothing short of magical.
Because the guest attire brought so much vibrancy on its own, Zori and Pemisin made the thoughtful decision to let the overall design breathe a little. Whites and gold accents carried the palette, with lush greenery, delicate florals, and an abundance of candlelight filling in the warmth. That last detail meant more than most guests may have realized. Zori once ran a candle business and still makes candles to this day, and weaving that personal tradition into the atmosphere of the wedding was deeply meaningful to her. She wanted the space to feel the way her candles always have: warm, cozy, and like somewhere you never want to leave.
The ceremony itself unfolded like a carefully curated playlist of feeling. Guests arrived to the soft, sweeping melodies of Studio Ghibli, which set a tone that was at once whimsical and tender. Pemisin walked in to John Legend’s “You and I,” the bridesmaids to H.E.R.’s “Best Part,” and the littles made their entrance to Ariana Grande’s “POV.” Then came Zori, stepping down the aisle to JVKE’s “Golden Hour,” a moment that by all accounts was pure magic. And when it was all said and done and the couple turned to walk back up the aisle together, Bob Marley’s “One Love” rang out as the recessional, a nod to Zori’s Jamaican heritage and a song that felt like it was written for exactly this moment. Every note was performed live on harp by Flora Music, making the whole ceremony feel like something out of a dream.
The celebration only grew from there. Zori and Pemisin changed outfits three times throughout the day, keeping the energy fun and the festivities feeling like a true party. And because they are both devoted dessert lovers, they treated their guests to gelato, which turned out to be one of the most talked about moments of the night.
