Historic Palm Lodge
Historic Palm Lodge is a beautifully preserved piece of Miami history, designated as a Miami-Dade historical site and dating back to 1912. Set among lush tropical gardens, this historic house and estate carries the remarkable legacy of Colonel Henry Wallace Johnston of Kentucky, once known as the “Wizard of Palm Lodge Grove.”
During the 1920s, Colonel Johnston transformed Palm Lodge into a world-renowned horticultural destination, cultivating hundreds of rare tropical fruits and flowers, many of which were unique to the United States. His gardens quickly became an international attraction, drawing botanists, horticulturists, travelers, and notable visitors from around the world, including Henry Ford.
From visitors arriving from China, France, Palestine, England, and Baghdad to more than 30,000 guests who came to experience the gardens, Palm Lodge became celebrated for its incredible botanical collection and global appeal. Colonel Johnston famously grew much of his collection from seed, creating a one-of-a-kind tropical landscape that remains part of the property’s charm today.
With its historic architecture, lush gardens, and fascinating Miami legacy, Historic Palm Lodge offers a truly distinctive setting for couples looking to celebrate somewhere with character, history, and a story all its own.
