 “There were venues she would have never thought to visit, and it completely changed how she viewed her options.”  Jess remembers.

In fact, education has played a major role throughout her life. Jess earned a double major in Marketing and Economics and even began her college journey on a pre-med track. At the time, she never imagined that wedding planning would become her career.

Today, she uses that educational background not only to run a successful business but also to mentor future hospitality professionals.

Jess also serves as a mentor for Florida International University’s School of Hospitality, where she helps students develop practical life skills including time management, budgeting, professionalism, and personal growth. For her, mentorship isn’t just about preparing students for careers. It’s about helping them navigate life itself.

One phrase she often shares is:

“Life will always be life-ing.” She is big on the fact that it’s up to you to decide how you’re going to make it better for yourself.

That mindset has become a guiding principle for both her professional and personal life.

Inspired by Family, Built Through Experience

Interestingly, Jessyca’s path into wedding planning didn’t begin in a classroom. It began with a conversation with her mother.

When asked who inspired her to enter the events industry, Jess immediately credits her mom for encouraging her to pursue “the event thing.” Once she decided to explore the field, Jess took an unconventional approach. She contacted three wedding planners and offered to work for free. She wasn’t interested in a paycheck. She wanted experience. She wanted to learn. She wanted to understand what it truly took to succeed in the industry.

By volunteering her time and gaining hands on experience, she built the foundation that would eventually become EBJ Events.

Enjoying the journey

One piece of advice Jess shares with every bride may be her most valuable. As someone who spends every day creating incredible wedding experiences, she understands something many couples forget during the planning process.

“A wedding really is just one day,” she says. “Enjoy the process of being a bride while you can. Then the day feels so much more worth it when the wedding day comes.”
